Nikon D500 Review – Birds in Flight and more

This is not intended to be a qualitative review but examples of bird photos using the new Nikon D500 camera.

It was typical may day on long the coast at near Estero Bay, just north of Morro Bay, a cool, windy day with a mixture of clouds and bright sunlight. I had just received a Nikon D500 and was determined to get some bird photos. Along with the Nikon D500 I was using a Nikkor 800MM lens with a 1.25x converter which gives you a 35mm focal length of 1500mm on a Really Right Stuff tripod and gimbal head. Wow, I was not sure how this was going to go.

Overall the camera was very responsive, great focusing speed, enjoyed the group focus and single point. It was a fast moving morning with lots of waves so the birds were moving quickly.

All of a sudden a couple Oyster Catchers appears in the rocks.

Overall all it was a good day and the Nikon D500 performed well in these conditions.
